TOP 5 QUESTIONS

Q1: What steps do you take during your morning skincare routine?

A1: My daily skincare routine is pretty simple, but even more so in the a.m., because I don’t wash my face in the morning. I only cleanse my eyes with the Glowing Facial Cloth to remove any sleep, and then I refresh my skin with the Aura Clearing Mist. After that, I apply either the Youth Beauty Face Oil or the Heal All Oil. If I know I will be outside most of the day, I will choose the Heal All Oil as it counteracts damage and oxidative stress caused by over-exposure to damaging UV rays. Lastly, I rotate between my Sorceress Stone and Gold Firming Wand to de-puff, sculpt and help bring nutrients to my skin for my daily glow.

Q2: What is your WHY for taking care of your skin?

A2: I grew up in the modeling world so the importance of looking good and taking care of my skin was something that was always on my radar. Then having unexpectedly continued to model into my 40’s, taking care of my skin became even more important as I was often shooting with women half my age. That and owning my own skincare line, I have always felt some pressure to look my best, and taking care of my skin has always been one of my favorite and most powerful ways to do so.

Taking care of my skin is such a sacred self-care practice for me. As a mother and busy businesswoman, it is the one time throughout the day that I get to take for myself. To tune in and check-in and give myself some much-needed self-love, the foundation for everything.

Q3: What would you say to your younger self about skincare if you could?

A3: Fads come and go and what works for others may not be right for you. Always use natural, organic skincare and once you find something you love, stick with it. Consistency and positive thoughts are key.

Q4: What is an unusual or somewhat weird practice you do to keep your skin youthful?

A4:

1. I get my daily sun, without sunscreen. My cue to get out of the sun is when my skin begins to flush - this is your body’s natural signal that it has gotten sufficient Vitamin D. This timing is different for everybody and is based on the melanin in your skin and your body’s ability to receive the sun.

2. I hang upside down often or get upside down by practicing inversions in yoga via shoulder stands and headstands. Anytime you place your head below your heart, you positively influence your entire body, including your skin and hair. Literally defying gravity.

3. I drink hydrogen water every day, which is the best antioxidant (anti-aging) water available. Proven to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the body-two of the main causes of aging. Click HERE for Synergy Science Echo Water machine- the one I have and use code BEGOLDEN to save.

4. I practice full-body gua sha regularly. Many people only practice gua sha on the face, which I of course do too, but to make real changes, we have to treat the entire body. The state of our face is a direct reflection of how well our circulating energy life force “qi” or blood flow is. If we do not take care of the blood flow system, we cannot make permanent changes to our faces. The face is an extension of the whole body and reflects not only what's happening on our face but what is happening in our body & mind. Treating the entire system is key for maximum results.

Q5: Thoughts on plastic surgery, botox, fillers, lasers & other cosmetic medical procedures?

A5: I think it’s great that there are new innovative ways being developed for people to feel better about themselves and quickly resolve issues that might have been bothering them for years. But I don’t think these options are great for everyone. You have to research your options, risks and do the work internally that is making you question that you need plastic surgery to begin with.

Botox for instance, yes can almost immediately minimize wrinkles but at what cost? Botox paralyzes muscles and that paralysis causes major muscle groups to atrophy and your face actually falls more over time. It is a bandaid - not a solution. Cosmetic procedures, in general, are quick fixes but need to be constantly repeated because the face will gradually go back to its natural pattern. The key to long-lasting results is to naturally change the pattern of the face and retrain the muscles and skin through organic skincare and different facial massage (gua sha) techniques.

Lasers are another one where it can actually make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and active ingredients, therefore causing more damage long term, especially if you are a sun lover like me. Diet plays more of a role in this. See my previous blog post to learn more on lipid peroxidation HERE. Personally, I prefer and do better with less invasive procedures. Outside of consistently using TGS Sorceress Stone and Gold Wand, I do love microneedling PRP once a year, which uses your own blood plasma. I also love Vital Red Light therapy daily. Use code: BEGOLDEN to save. High frequency and microcurrent facials are also great, natural ways to help invigorate and stimulate your bodies own response to aging with grace.
